Halloween 2015 DIY Costume

HelΕ‚o? Is anybody out there?

It's been a HOT minute, like maybe 6 years?! Honestly, it may be longer, lol!πŸ˜†πŸ˜„ I am literally just writing an update to my Halloween draft from 2015!!!! So, yeah it's been 87 years. But I am back and ready to blog my heart out again and be better accountable to the things old and new that have sparked this resurgence.🀞 Full update post coming soon but I could not start fresh before clearing out my rough drafts of intended posts from years. So here it is, my Halloween DIY Costume post from 2015, untouched. ;-)

                                                  ******************************
I know, I've been gone for a minute, a little over two years to be exact. A lot has happened, both good, bad and everything in between, but I'm back and hopeful with a lot of creativity to share.

If you haven't already figured out by now, I'm a woman of few words and lots of pictures so I'm just going to jump right into a super fun DIY I did for this recently past Halloween that has me itching to make all the tulle skirts EVER!;-)

This fun DIY inspiration comes from one of my all time favorite 'do it yourselfers' and all around favorite person ever: the newly wedded Mrs. Lauren(Conrad) Tell. Here is how it all started: my usual method for Halloween costumes is to make them myself, but I've recently stumbled upon the problem of procrastinating until the week before, have this great inspiring idea and then not being able to fulfill it to my hearts desire because I didn't give myself enough time to plan/budget what I needed.

Story of my life, first world problems, right? So that cycle happened again this year, my dreams were crushed and at that point I didn't really care about wearing a costume to my friend's annual costume party. And just when all hope was lost, I checked my email and saw this beautifully inspiring post by a member that spoke to my big ballerina heart and just like that I was back in the game with a doable DIY budget!

So here is my take on this simple chic costume that you can do yourself in a night while catching up on season 9 of The Voice (finally made it to the Lives for the first time in forever y'all! Imagine an Anna from Frozen rendition, haha).

Start with a mannequin, if you have one, as your model, tulle color of choice and a belt or an elastic band
I followed the websites instructions for the most part, only changes made was using an elastic band instead of a belt, adding chocolate tulle and different color heels. It is all about your preference really, I think the basic concept is a great guideline to follow, but don't be afraid to add your own flare or style to it. I can promise you this will not be my last tulle skirt DIY after discovering this! 😍
This was after I used up both spools of white tulle, just enough room to add some chocolate swirling action
I ended up sewing my elastic band, measured it to my preference for a high-waist fit and followed the slip-knot instructions from the link

Here is the finished outfit. Sometimes I get swept up in a great DIY moment and neglect my picture duties

Here is the full look with the cone that really reminds me of a unicorn. I guess I could've also been a My Little Pony and get away with it, they always had dessert-like names (strawberry shortcake, anyone?)

Here I am dressed in the complete look, ice cream scoop in hand, haha. I ended up cutting the cone down to fit through doors and to not be mistaken for a unicorn.
I also had a struggle with the white slip being too long, if you look closely you can see how I made it into a tube dress to prevent it from sticking out from the tulle skirt, work with what you got right? Next time I would buy more tulle to make my skirt longer and prevent any accidental flashes due to my slip riding up. But all in all, great outfit and I would quickly do it again! <3

I didn't end up needing everything on the list, but here is a breakdown of what I ended up spending for this costume:
-3 spools of tulle(2-white 1-brown)- $10 or less TOTAL w/ coupon Hobby Lobby
-white V-neck tshirt- $9/Target
-white slip- $8.99/Stein Mart
-colored Popsicle sticks given to me by a friend- FREE
-woven elastic band- $1.69/Hobby Lobby
-sparkly cardstock- $1.99/Hobby Lobby
TOTAL: $31.68
* This DIY should really cost you under $20 if you only needed tulle, gold card stock, elastic and popsicle sticks.

So what do you think? Would you be trying out this idea next Halloween or the tulle skirt idea for your next fancy party and/or outing?

***SIDE NOTE: Not sure how the price has changed since making this post but I still think would be a very applicable and inexpensive DIY no matter how many years go by. πŸ˜‚ ***
